Kelar Chile Project Abstract

The new Kelar combined-cycle power plant will be located at a site owned by Kelar S.A., in the northern limit of the industrial port area of the Mejillones municipality, in the Antofagasta region, Chile. With an overall output of 540 MW, the plant will supply the power needs of the mining activity of Minera Escondida and its associated activities, belonging to BHP Billiton. The project will be implemented by Samsung Engineering on an engineering, procurement and construction basis (EPC). The units are expected to be commissioned at the end of 2016. Within the Kelar Chile project, Doosan Skoda Power will supply a 177 MW turbo set with accessories designed for outdoor use in an area of high seismic activity. Alstom will supply two GT13E2 gas turbines and Long Term Services.
