Biomass-fired power station

ASV6 BIO LOT3 Project Abstract

Pilsen/Kalungborg (9 November 2017) – In Kalundborg, Denmark, the construction of a biomass-fired power station has been started. It will also supply heat to households and neighbouring businesses in addition to supplying electricity. A machine room delivered by Pilsen- based Doosan Škoda Power will be the heart of the Asnæs environmentally-friendly power station. This universally beneficial project will primarily help to reduce CO2 emissions by 40%, i.e. approximately 800 tonnes per year. A still operating thermal power station, with a dusty coal storage site, stands close to the building site mobilised for the future Asnæs power station. The old power station is adjacent to a seaport, which will be modified next year to be able to receive up to 9.5-m draught ocean vessels with capacities for 40,000 cu m of wood chips. Thus, the coal storage site will be transformed into a wood chip storage site with a capacity of 80,000 cu m; the biomass-fired boiler needs 3,500 cu m of wood chips every day. Doosan Škoda Power will deliver a complete machine room to the new power station, with a maximum capacity of 30 MW, equipped with an innovative two-casing turbine. Doosan Škoda Power signed the contract for the delivery of the complete machine room of the Asnæs power station with DONG Energy Denmark last summer.
